JEWELLERY AND WATCHES · PRODUCTION PLAYBOOK

Jewellery and watches imagery that stays consistent at catalogue scale.

Jewellery and watches teams manage high-value products with reflective surfaces and magnified customer inspection. This playbook covers capture inputs, editing decisions, department handoffs and the quality controls needed to protect metal tone, gemstone structure and deliberately shaped reflections.

01

A production brief your team can reuse

Retain hallmark and micro-scratches that show finish. Remove wax and dust. Keep the diamond facets distinct, shape a continuous highlight on polished gold, and deliver a full-resolution TIFF plus web JPG. Common jobs include support and wax removal, focus-stack cleanup, metal reflection control, gemstone refinement, clipping paths, high-resolution masters. The approved decisions become a versioned specification rather than disappearing into email.

02

Retouch material, not a generic ‘luxury’ look

Gold, platinum, brushed steel, enamel and transparent stones need different reflection logic. The editor needs a material note and approved reference, not simply an instruction to make the item ‘shinier’.

03

Use focus stacks carefully

Macro sequences can introduce halos, doubled edges and local softness. Stack boundaries are inspected around prongs, chain links and bezels before dust cleanup or tonal work begins.

04

QC at product-page magnification

A thumbnail hides broken paths and reflection discontinuities. Review at 100% and at the storefront’s actual zoom level, then compare the complete set for metal-tone consistency.

05

Move the full range without losing product identity

Device, folder and secure-link uploads keep source names attached to the order. Department roles separate preparation, product questions, review and billing. Approved masters can then become controlled outputs for luxury ecommerce, dealers and print catalogues, while exceptions remain visible instead of blocking the entire range.

PRACTICAL ANSWERS

Questions teams ask before production.

01Do you remove every scratch?

No. Temporary handling marks may be removed; texture, engraving and finish characteristics must remain unless the brief says otherwise.

02Can transparent stones be clipped cleanly?

Yes, but they need specialist masking and a review on multiple backgrounds.

03Should watches show the same hand position?

A catalogue can define one approved time and date position, provided the source supports it.
